Aspen Dental at 1902 North Prospect Avenue Ste 1, Champaign, Illinois.

My 7 year old daughter had been experiencing minor tooth pain (I believe because she has a tooth coming in behind her molars, but naturally wanted to make sure it was nothing more than that). I did an online search and decided to schedule an appointment with Aspen Dental for a basic cleaning for her weeks ago. During this initial call, I was asked what type of insurance my daughter had. After I responded, I was told they could not accept the insurance, but I could pay for the service out of pocket. I agreed with that arrangement. It was also explained that since this would have been her very first appointment with the agency, we could not walk-in (inconvenience 1). I used personal time from my job, because all of the weekend/after hours time slots were booked so much further out (inconvenience 2). Not only that, I received several messages instructing me to confirm my appointment (even AFTER I'd called and confirmed it with a representative in the local office) (inconvenience 3). My daughter was, naturally, nervous about being seen by a new dentist, but excited to be able to finally satisfy her curiosity about and/or resolve the cause of her toothache. We arrive for our appointment today, and upon request, I gave my medical card to the receptionist. She tells me that they don't accept the type of insurance my daughter has. I explained that I was made aware of this, and was told that I could pay out of pocket. She responded that she wasn't sure who I spoke to, and supposed I'd received this information from an online representative (this was the case, but it was still Aspen Dental - the policy(ies) should not have been any different), and turned us away with a reference to another dental office that takes my daughter's insurance. Both my daughter and I walked away confused, disappointed and a little embarrassed. After leaving, I called the Aspen Dental phone number that I’d called originally to clarify the matter, and after A LITTLE investigation, aka customer service, I was told that my daughter's appointment could have been honored in this office.
